What is an Evacuation Sled?

Evacuation Sleds are devices that can easily evacuate a non-ambulatory person down multiple flights of stairs quickly and safely. They allow staff to transport patients 2 – 3 times their own weight with no lifting as they use a roll and drag method of movement.

Evacuation Sleds come in various sizes for youth through to bariatric individuals. Toddler and baby inserts are also available to assist with evacuating children.

Sleds have a specially designed stairwell braking system which allows for safe and controlled descent and can accommodate IV bags, oxygen and other small devices.
